COURSE: Algebra II

PREREQUISITE: Algebra I
OBJECTIVES:
Mathematical Language and Symbols Students Should Use: compound inequality, rational equation, system of equations, complex number, completing the square, and quadratic, function, relation, ƒ(x), ƒ(g(x)), ƒ o g, exponential function, logarithm, base, and transformation, parabola, radian, unit circle, and reference angle, permutation, combination, conditional probability, discrete random variable, standard deviation, interquartile range, and percentile.
INSTURCTION AND EVALUATION METHODS:
Class is conducted through informal lecture with many examples worked in detail. There will be extensive interaction with the students; one on one and in groups. Some lessons begin with explorations of the concepts or projects pertaining to the concepts. Students are encouraged to discuss any of the topics we cover.
Since mathematics is cumulative in nature, class attendance is very important. Notes should be taken and all assignments completed to be successful in this class.
Evaluation will be based upon completion of homework, quizzes, notebook grade, and test grades.
HOMEWORK: Homework assignments will be made at the completing of classroom discussion. These problems are to be completed before the next class meeting. Students are responsible for all material covered.
this is an upper level math course, students need to work through the problems and practice on their own in order to master the objects. There will be homework most evenings, please check the calendar on my page to see what is assigned.
CLASS ATTENDANCE: Class attendance is important to accurately complete the course. Students are responsible for acquiring all missed assignments.
GRADES:
The following grade scale will be used in this course:
90 – 100 A; 80 – 89 B; 70 – 79 C; 60 – 69 D; 0 – 59 F
NOTEBOOK ORGANIZATION: 1 ½ - 2 inch binder, a set of five tab dividers, pencils and plenty of loose leaf paper will be needed for this class.
STUDENTS SHOULD COME TO CLASS PREPARED, WITH BOOK, BINDER AND PENCILS.
